Well… that didn’t quite go to plan!
Our Twilight Rally started in fine style, with over 80 members and guests enjoying fish & chips from Millers before crews prepared their boats for the evening. Millers have proved extremely popular at YMYC and, once again, went down a treat.
As dusk fell, the lights went on, the outfits came out and our illuminated flotilla set off with plans for a spectacular cruise through the centre of York.
Unfortunately, York had other ideas.
As the boats approached the city, Police and River Rescue were dealing with an incident involving someone who had fallen asleep on a bridge, meaning our planned route into York was no longer possible.
So, after a little head scratching, some rapid recalculating and the realisation that you can’t argue with a closed river, Plan A was officially abandoned.
Plan B: Bishopthorpe!
It may not have been the Twilight Rally we’d planned, but it certainly became one we’ll remember!
A huge thank you to our Commodore team, who organised the event and did a brilliant job of adapting the plans on the night, and to everyone who decorated their boats, dressed for the occasion and joined in.
York will have to wait until next time… Bishopthorpe got the show instead!
